The Buffalo Sabres have fired general manager Kevyn Adams in a move made 2 1/2 months into his sixth season, with the team sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and already in jeopardy of extending its NHL-record playoff drought to a 15th year.
But replacing Lindy Ruff may be the next major move, without gutting the roster. Ruff is in his second go-around with the Sabres. His first stint came from 1998 to 2013. During that time, the Sabres made the Stanley Cup Final. It was also under Ruff’s first tenure that Buffalo last made the playoffs.
