New Yorkers may be eligible to receive part of a $9 million settlement over ignition switches in Kia and Hyundai cars that resulted in many car thefts.

A settlement between 35 states, including North Carolina, and automakers would require financial compensation and a free repair to Kia and Hyundai car owners vulnerable or affected by car thefts. Car models from 2011 to 2022 may be missing a key part to help deter thieves.
