After the SEC schedule release, the Texas Longhorns might have been granted their toughest schedule since joining the conference

It was only two years ago the Wolverines won their first national title in more than a quarter century, and much has happened since: one coach (Jim Harbaugh) ran to the NFL before the NCAA sheriff could get him, and another coach (Sherrone Moore) was fired Wednesday after an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate.

The conference is better off with one division, which has led to better matchups even if it means minor headaches.

LSU's Lane Kiffin will make his return to Ole Miss on Sept. 19, as the SEC announced the dates for its first nine-game schedule.

The USA TODAY Network has released its All-SEC football team as voted on sports writers covering the SEC from the network.

There are two notable differences in this year’s schedule. First, there are no longer two bye weeks on each team’s schedule. The way the calendar fell in 2024 and 2025, there were 14 available Saturdays from late August/early September and late November for teams to play 12 games. That changes in 2026.

A repeat of last year's unprecedented selection Sunday flew off the table last weekend when the league posted an 0-8 mark against high-major competition/Gonzaga. But the extent to which the SEC can salvage its sloppy start will be determined before Christmas.
