The Emirates NBA Cup has thrown the Week 8 schedule for a loop, with Indiana, Minnesota and Sacramento having excellent schedules.
Contenders like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks have advanced to the knockout round of the 2025 NBA Cup.
The Rockets have the league’s easiest December schedule regarding cumulative opponent winning percentage (.405), though it includes two games against Denver. They were the only team that, prior to Sunday, hadn’t played a back-to-back. Their first was a Nov. 30-Dec. 1 back-to-back in Utah, and their first rest-disadvantage game isn’t until Jan. 16.
The New Orleans Pelicans now know the two games that have been added to their schedule after going 0-4 in West Group B of the Emirates NBA Cup.
• Key matchup: Bam Adebayo on Paolo Banchero. With Wagner out, the offense is going to run through Banchero quite a bit. That means the ball can get stuck. If Adebayo avoids foul trouble, we could see a real traffic jam on offense for Orlando.

So far, the Rockets are 0-2 in the second game of a back-to-back, losing to the Mavericks and the Utah Jazz (Dec. 1). Their schedule through the early portion of the season has been relatively easy, having faced just seven teams that currently have a top-six seed in each conference.
