A demonstration was blocking traffic in downtown Seattle, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) reported at 5 p.m. Monday. However, SDOT announced around 6:45 p.m. that demonstrators had cleared out. The gathering appeared to be an “ICE Out for Good” protest headed to the Federal Building, as posted online.
Protesters in Seattle rallied peacefully outside the federal building, urging senators to block funding for ICE.
Seattle restaurants are banding together to show solidarity with businesses in Minneapolis, raising funds to support their counterparts.
More protests are expected to follow in western Washington. On Saturday, several “Abolish ICE – Justice For Good” protests are scheduled in the area, including in Seattle, Renton, and Lynnwood. A full list of protests in western Washington can be found here.
