The energy inside TD Garden felt familiar, thick with the tension of a playoff atmosphere between the Celtics and Knicks in early December. It wasn’t just a Tuesday night game; it was a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference semifinals,
Coby White (22 points, 6-14 FG, 9-12 FT) led Chicago in scoring on a night when Josh Giddey and Nikola Vucevic combined for just 17 points on 5-for-16 shooting. Chicago committed 18 turnovers in a 120-105 loss to the Pacers.
Boston recorded its second best offensive performance in history with a 150.5 rating. It was a clinic from start to finish with the Celtics dishing 35 assists while also nailing 20 threes. They also had three scorers over 20 points in Derrick White (30), Jordan Walsh (22) and Payton Pritchard (20).
Oubre’s game-winner came after rising Celtics reserve Jordan Walsh blanketed All-Star Sixers point guard Tyrese Maxey on three consecutive late-game possessions. Maxey fed a pass to Justin Edwards, who missed a 3-pointer, and Oubre caught Brown ball-watching to grab the offensive rebound.
With 11.5 seconds remaining in a 100-all tie, Sixers wing Justin Edwards rose up for the go-ahead 3-pointer and bricked his first shot of the game after making his first five from long range. However, Kelly Oubre was perfectly positioned under the basket to grab the rebound and lay it in with 8.7 seconds left.
The Celtics will be finishing out a tough five games in seven nights stretch on Friday but will do so against a shorthanded Lakers squad. Luka Doncic (personal) and Marcus Smart (back) were declared out for the matchup this afternoon. Smart has not played since Nov. 25 due to the injury.
Last night, the Los Angeles Lakers faced off against the Toronto Raptors, but something felt off. The game was down to the wire, and though the Lakers managed to close out the game, the cushion they built during November can disappear quickly.
