MLB, Rule 5 Draft
Digest more
The Texas Rangers have had some luck lately with college-age pitchers in the first round of the MLB draft.
MLB's fourth amateur Draft Lottery will take place Tuesday night at the Winter Meetings in Orlando. MLB and the MLB Players Association agreed to the lottery as part of the current collective bargaining agreement in an effort to curb tanking and anti-competitive behavior in general. The top six picks are now awarded through the lottery.

Post-Lottery 2026 MLB Draft Mock Draft
The draft lottery is over and the order for the 2026 MLB Draft is pretty much set at this point, with the exception of picks moving around due to free agent signings. The Atlanta Braves are set to pick with the 9th pick, their own first round pick, and the 26th pick, which is the one they are receiving for Drake Baldwin’s Rookie of the Year.
The MLB Draft Lottery is officially done, so now we must turn our attention to the players the lottery winners may very well end up picking in 2026.
The White Sox, with the highest odds at 27.73%, won the No. 1 overall pick in next summer's draft during Tuesday's lottery at the Winter Meetings in Orlando. It will be Chicago's first No. 1 selection since taking Hall of Famer Harold Baines in 1977 and their third No. 1 pick overall (also Danny Goodwin in 1971).
Per MLB.com, the Chicago White Sox have the best odds to win the lottery at 27.73 percent. The White Sox improved after the 2024 campaign, but still finished with a 60-102 record, the second worst in baseball, in 2025. Safe to say, Chicago is desperate for a No. 1 pick.
