Tim Banks, who on Monday was dismissed from his job as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator, is set to join former Vols offensive coordinator and current Auburn head coach Alex Golesh on The Plains as a defensive assistant, according to multiple Thursday morning reports from Auburn media.

College football is a lot different than it was 10, or even five years ago. Players can get paid, each offseason allows for virtually unregulated free agency in the transfer portal and many programs are constantly looking for new ways to stay financially competitive.

Auburn head coach Alex Golesh discussed the program’s decision to decline the bid at his press conference on Monday, explaining how choosing not to play another game this season was the best option all around for the staff (or lack thereof), state of the locker room, and more importantly, the players.
