WWE, John Cena and Brock Lesnar
Digest more
When Lesnar exited WWE to pursue other avenues of employment, he left a massive void at the top of the card. The Beast Incarnate suddenly decided he didn't want to go through the grind of the WWE travel schedule any longer, leaving the company without its most dominant young star.
Many fans were taken aback when Brock Lesnar scored a one-sided victory over John Cena at Wrestlepalooza in September, but Cena explained the rationale during an interview this week.
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Tuesday, Cena hinted that Brock Lesnar may retire after SummerSlam, making his Minneapolis appearance his final dance with the WWE. Lesnar recently returned to the WWE from a two-year absence that coincided with him being named in a sex trafficking lawsuit against the company and Vince McMahon.
WWE SummerSlam 2026 is being held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on August 1-2. That would make sense for Lesnar’s retirement given that Minnesota was once his home and he was a legendary amateur wrestler there.
Brock Lesnar made his return to WWE television at SummerSlam 2025, confronting John Cena, who had just lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes. Lesnar laid out Cena, setting up a match between the two at WWE Wrestlepalooza. The match was a quick affair with Lesnar winning.
WWE is at the tail end of John Cena's Last Time is Now Tournament. So far, Gunther and LA Knight have advanced to the finals and are set to square off on the upcoming episode of WWE SmackDown.
