Harrison Bertos scores in OT to help Washington beat N.C. State 3-2 and win first Men’s College Cup
Harrison Bertos scored 1:54 into overtime after Washington blew a two-goal lead in the second half, and the Huskies beat North Carolina State 3-2 to win the Men’s College Cup at First Horizon Stadium.
Washington continued its road-dominance, defeating No. 16-seed Furman 3-1 to punch its ticket to the national championship for the second time in program history. Despite strong turnout from the Furman faithful, UW secured yet another victory away from home.
Washington surrendered a 2-0 lead to NC State, but roared back in extra time to clinch the College Cup in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 win. The Huskies seemed to be in control after 60 minutes, but the Wolfpack roared back in style,
The unseeded Huskies (16-6-2) became the first team to win six road matches in an NCAA men’s soccer tournament, defeating six seeded opponents along the way under coach Jamie Clark. The title was Washington’s first national championship and came in its second appearance in the College Cup final, following a 2-0 loss to Clemson in 2021.
