Chimpanzees have been observed to outperform humans in certain memory tests, particularly those involving short-term memory and quick recall of visual patterns. In one well-known study conducted at Kyoto University, young chimpanzees were able to accurately recall the location of numbers briefly displayed on a screen—even when they were only visible for a fraction of a second. Human participants generally struggled with the same task. Researchers believe this may be due to the chimpanzees’ stron
