Here's a basic wire rope thimbled eye splice, going around a Gunnebo oblong/oval master link (also called a "ring" by many riggers). A Flemished eye splice like this is strong, safe and the preferred method for sling building. The thimble helps protect the wire rope from abrasion and also helps preserve a proper D/d ratio.
