This 1963 Factory Team Cobra Roadster, CSX2137, was the first Cobra to “draw blood” in the famous Cobra-Ferrari Wars of the 1960s. Dan Gurney drove it to win at Bridgehampton, N.Y., in September of 1963. It was the first FIA World Sportscar championship win for the fledgling Shelby American Team, and the first FIA win for an American driver in an American car. Ed Dedick talks about two 80's compact performance cars, the 1987 and 1989 Shelby CSX. Starting with a Dodge Shadow, Carroll Shelby and his team in Whittier, California, would work their magic. Shock absorbers and springs were swapped, and disc brakes from the Daytona Shelby Z were also brought over. The turbo 2.2L four-cylinder engine made for 175 horsepower, which is substantial considering the highest-powered Mustangs and Camaros for 1987, only had 225. In this video, Ed goes over the history
